We wanted to do something festive for Thanksgiving, but I didn’t want to deal with a big traditional meal. I’m not a huge fan of Thanksgiving food, anyway. But, I do love to bake.
Turning tradition in its stuffy head, we instead had 12-15 people over for brunch.
I made:
3 quiches
blueberry/lavender/lemon muffins
lemon basil shortbread
coffee cake
And we served coffee, tea and juice.
People hung out for about 2 hours and then went on to their other holiday celebrations. It was perfect.

After everyone left, we took a long nap. All 4 of us. At the same time. It was a Thanksgiving miracle. Henry and I agreed that it was one of the best naps we’ve had. We awoke rested and refreshed, not groggy and grumpy. Even “post-nap-meltdown” Anders woke up in a good mood.
We had planned to take a little hike to Pine Creek Falls, but the nap went long, so we went straight to Chico for a soak and Thanksgiving dinner. Henry had turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. I had a spicy black bean burrito. Yum!
It was one of the best Thanksgivings ever…and not just because of the nap.
