I try a lot of natural, homemade, organic. crunchy-granola products. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, but you have to try.
My goals, which you are tired of hearing about if you spend anytime here, are:
1. to reduce our use of plastic
2. stay away from toxins and weird chemicals
3. be healthy!
I also don’t want to stink unless I am working out.
Last winter Heather gave me a little tub of cream deodorant that she made. I was leery, but I tried it. It worked surprisingly well. I made another batch myself and still liked it. Then for some reason I tried another homemade recipe. Good ingredients, bad results.
So I am back to the original recipe. I am so confident that you’ll like it, too, that I am going to share it with you.
The recipe is from Bonzai Aphrodite.
1/3 cup Corn Starch
1/3 cup Baking Soda
10 drops of Antibacterial Essential Oil (tea tree, lavender, or eucalyptus) I use tea tree.
10 drops of Antifungal Essential Oil (tea tree, peppermint, sandalwood, or eucalyptus) I use peppermint.
2 tablespoons Vitamin E Oil
3 tablespoons Coconut Oil
Mix everything up in a bowl until it forms a thick paste. Transfer to your storage container and then allow 24 hours to set up.
I put it in small glass jars and store two in the fridge until I am ready to use them.
Stick your finger in there and rub it into your pits. Delightful.
Now I don’t even stink when I work out…well, maybe just a little.
You crack me up! I gave up on deodorant a long time ago, although these pre-teen boys are making me re-think my position. They are not smelling so sweet anymore! Thanks for the home-made idea.
I keep getting warnings that boys go from sweet to yucky at some point. Luckily, Finn wanted to try my deodorant today (he thinks it smells like mint cookies!), so he is on the path to smelling good.
