This is my old best friend.

This is my new best friend.

OK, Rigby is still my best friend (after you, of course), but this cherry pitter is closing in on the coveted title “Melynda’s best friend”.

Those of you who know me well, know I LOVE fruit. I’d easily give up all other foods to eat only fruit (dark chocolate would be tough to give up, but I’d do it).

This summer Big H and Mogie have been doing a great job of keeping us in fruit. Blueberries, cherries, peaches–all the yummy summer fruits. Anders is also a fruitaholic and sometimes I have to hide fruit from him just to get my fair share.

The trouble with cherries is that they have pits. Not an issue for an advanced cherry-eater such as my self, but a newbie like Anders can’t handle the pits.

Before buying the cherry pitter today, I’d bite into a cherry, bite out the pit, pull the fruit out of my mouth and hand it to Anders (if you think that is gross you should see some of the much grosser stuff I deal with on a daily basis).

Now, I can pit the cherries for Anders. I can pit cherries for pie and jam–not like I am making pie or jam, but I could.

The cherry pitter is super fun. It shoots the pit out the bottom and makes a cool clicking noise while it does it. If I weren’t such a peace-loving person, I’d chase my family members around shooting pits at them.

I just noticed there is a pineapple slicer and a mango splitter, too. Uh oh, the cherry pitter may have competition.

  1. Wow! Where can I get one? I haven’t yet uploaded my photos but I went cherry picking 1 1/2 weeks ago and picked about 40 lbs of cherries! I have a pitter but this looks like it is easier on the hands. My knuckles were swollen for days. I’ll send you home with some cherry jam when you come to CA. ^__^ I do the mama bird thing too for Henry.
