One of the stories I am working for MSU News Service is about following the barley trail from our research at MSU to a farmer’s field to a malt house and finally to a microbrewery in Belgrade (about 10 miles west of Bozeman).

Two weeks ago our photographer, Kelly, and I drove up to Great Falls to tour the MaltEurop malting plant and about an hour and a half northeast of there to visit a farm. You’ll have to read about it in Mountains and Minds magazine, but here are a few photos from our trip.

The silos at the MaltEurop plant. The largest (by volume) building in Montana.

Kelly shooting the plant.

Fire over the Missouri River between Great Falls and Helena.

Bomber about to drop water or retardent on the blaze.

Evidence of a past fire across the highway.

Rainbow over the Gallatin River.
