Our friends at Rusted Moon Alpacas invited us their beautiful farm in the Paradise Valley to help shear their alpacas. I wasn’t handed the clippers or anything, but I did get to help pull the blanket (fleece) off and wrap it up.
There are only a few professional shearers, and they travel the country turning fluffy alpacas into hilarious, skinny-necked creatures. They move in, gear spilling out of the truck, and get right to work. It’s all very efficient and very cool to be part of.
Several of these alpacas are pregnant and we can’t wait to see the babies this August. It’s been such a neat experience having friends with alpacas and learning all about these animals.
